In light of the guiding principles of school running, based on the new national standards, and driven by the objective of students’ employment and job assignment, the Japanese Department strives with determination to cultivate application-oriented, skilled, practical, and talented professional with good fluency in oral Japanese language, pays good attention to the enhancement of students' quality and ability, guides students to establish a correct world outlook and the concept of shared destiny with the country and the nation, assists them to hone their personality to adapt to the future competitive environment and team cooperation, and helps them to master Japanese language application and translation skills, from a professional point of view, both orally and in writing including the translation from Japanese to Chinese or vici versa, as well as to discover the learning methods suitable to their own personality and liking, in order to adapt to the future career and position they yearn for.
The Department, keeping in mind its training objective of cultivating students to become application-oriented, practical and talented personnel, is devoted to help students to develop their various competencies and skills, while encouraging them to do a good job in classroom learning in various academic fields, such as the ability of mastering the Japanese language, its literature and culture, the skill of doing translation bilingually and in writing from Chinese to Japanese and vici versa, the sufficient knowledge and skills of international trade, accounting, enterprise, teamwork, competition, problem solving and others, to equip themselves with broad vision, high expectation, good international perspective, strong competition consciousness, solid abilities of communication, hands-on, teamwork, and problem solving, and to assist them to develop the ability and habit of autonomous learning, so that they will become suitable for the actual needs of the society.
The Requirements of Students’ Competency
The students of Japanese Department should well comprehend national conditions of both China and Japan such as major policies and development trends, familiar with the international situation and hot issues, understand the country's development guidelines, policies, related laws and regulations, have certain international perspective and higher self-expectation, have solid foundation of Chinese and Japanese languages and good application ability of listening, speaking, reading and writing in both languages, grasp both Chinese and Japanese cultures, histories and philosophies and other related basic knowledge of the humanities and modern science and technology, possess strong abilities of communication, problem solving, research, literature search, data query, the related computer processing, and certain practical application competency of second foreign language.
Training Mode and Approach
The Department, based on its school running policy, training objective, competency requirements, social needs, and the new National Standards, has adopted the training mode of “Foreign Language Plus” to cultivate the students to become high-caliber multidisciplinary, application-oriented, and talented personnel, established relevant curriculum system for various majors, offered applied courses, set up the mechanism for combining production, learning, and research, and ensured the implementation of enterprise practice channels, providing an ideal environment for students to well learn the knowledge and skills in classroom and to continuously improve themselves, though the mechanism for combining production, learning, and research to consolidate knowledge and skills and through the internship and practical training to test what they have learnt.
International Cooperation and Exchange
The Department has made excellent accomplishment in establishing long-term international cooperation and exchange relationship with a good number of Japanese higher education institutions and organizations including Tokyo University of Economics (Tokyo Keizai University), Keisen University, Meiji Gakuin University, Kyoto University of Foreign Studies, Kyushu Sangyo University, Shokei Gakuin University and others. Every year, the Department sends a considerably large number of students and personnel to Japan to conduct exchange, academic conferences and other forms of activities. In addition, the Department keeps good relationship with Japan Science Society so as to provide opportunities and services to the graduating students from the Japanese Department of Sanda University to apply to Japanese institutions of higher learning for further studies.

Japanese Department has a faculty team of 24 high-caliber teaching professionals including 5 full professors, 1 associate professor, and 18 lecturers. Among them, there are 9 having studied either doctoral or master degree programs and 14 holding Master’s degree. In addition, the Department has also hired 2 foreign faculty members and 5 adjunct teaching professionals; 3 of them are full professors and 4 associate professors.

The Japanese Department has two undergraduate majors of Japanese Language and Translation (Japanese). In addition to the unified curriculum courses prescribed by the state such as General Education, Ideology and Politics, Physical Education, and Military Training, the Department mainly offers the following academic courses:
