The Accounting Department of Shengxiang School of Business, Sanda University, established in 1992, offers two academic majors “Accounting” and “Financial Management”, in which the Accounting major is one of the earliest academic fields offered by Sanda University.  It started to enroll students from institutions of junior college education level in 1992. The Department, after years’ of construction and development, was approved by the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission to matriculate students in the major of Accounting for undergraduate studies in 2002 and authorized the university to confer Bachelor’s degree in 2006; and to enroll students in the major of Financial Management for undergraduate studies also in 2006 and authorized the university to confer Bachelor’s degree in 2010.  The majors of Accounting and Financial Management both passed the Standard Assessment of Undergraduate Majors for Shanghai Institutions of higher education in 2017.


  The Department of Accounting, adopting a very clear education objective for the students in various majors, is devoted to cultivating high caliber application-oriented talented accountants, auditors and financial managers, for companies and enterprises in the City of Shanghai and Yangtze River Delta Region, who have an all-round moral, intellectual, physical, and aesthetic development, a solid foundation of theoretical knowledge in economy, management and accounting, and comparatively high cultural literacy and professional quality, and possess strong accounting skills, management ability and international vision, and the ability to adapt to the requirements of the big data environment.

 

 The Department of Accounting has a reasonably organized echelon teaching team with a combination of full-time and part-time faculty members in which there are 3 full professors, 5 associate professors, 3 holding doctoral degree, 3 doctoral candidates, 8 double qualified teachers with industry background and 9 teachers with overseas study or visiting experience.

 

  The Department consistently promote school-enterprise cooperation and has established many off-campus practice bases. For example, the Department has set up in-depth university-enterprise and production-academic learning cooperation bases with Seentao Technology Co., Ltd., Shanghai Qianyi Certified Public Accountants Tax Agents Co., Ltd., Shanghai Huihe Certified Public Accountants Co., Ltd., and Guangzhou First Software Co., Ltd., and etc., and jointly develop courses, apply for scientific research projects, accept faculty-enterprises  practice, and cultivate application-oriented and talented professionals.

 

  The Department of Accounting, paying great attention to teaching reform and scientific research, has won numerous awards and honors for the courses offered such as 1 Shanghai Quality Course (Cost Accounting) and 4 Shanghai Key Courses (Basic Accounting, Intermediate Financial Accounting, Accounting Practice and Financial Management), 1 Exemplary All-English Teaching Course in Shanghai Universities (Financial Accounting in English), and 1 Shanghai Key Construction Bilingual Course (Management Accounting). There are more than 10 textbooks solely or partially edited by teachers of this department. The academic field of Business Administration (Finance and Accounting) has been selected and honored by Sanda University as its key academic field for institutional support and fast development.  (The above data is as of July 2020)

 


Employment Status

 

  The Department of Accounting pays great attention to the employment and further studies of the students. The employment rate of the graduates majoring in Accounting and Financial Management has been above 95% for the past three years; and their work performance has been well recognized and appreciated by employers. The Department provides vigorous support to the graduates to continue to conduct further studies and work on higher academic degrees, and as a result, a good number of them are successfully admitted to working on graduate studies in both domestic and foreign institutions of higher education. In the past two years, some students have been admitted to Washington University (St. Louis) and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, which are among the top 30 universities in the United States.
