Duke University has three very important strategic planning, namely, "Forming the Future: A Young University in the New Century", "Pursuing Excellence" and "Different". In my opinion, the three key words - Forming future, pursuing excellence, different can be the core substance of our Sanda's strategic planning.


Sanda's development course reflects the educational ideals, value pursuit, high moral principle of a generation. Its perseverance in non-profit is Sanda's spiritual wealth. At present, we should inherit old traditions, seize new opportunities and uphold integrity, diligence and rigorous, and keep piloting reforming and developing.


Our planning is targeted at problems. Firstly, the current school characteristics are not distinctive and applied training model needs to be deepened. Secondly, major structure and layout are not reasonable enough; foresight of disciplinary comprehensive platform needs to be strengthened; major homogeneity needs to be avoided. Thirdly, teacher structure is not reasonable enough; teaching research and technology development lag behind; how do we encourage teachers to devote in private education. Fourthly, teaching infrastructure is not yet in place; the internationalized environment needs to be optimized. Finally, the vitality of the school has not yet been fully stimulated; and the school management system needs to be improved.


To solve these problems, we have started to develop a new strategic plan, reflecting a basic idea on strategic target and positioning, realization approaches to strategies and the principal strategic measures.


Positioning 1: We strive to build an applied, international, and high-level private University in applied sciences, complying with the international development trend of higher education reform, and serving the economic transformation and development of Shanghai.


Positioning 2: We will, with the outlook of based in Pudong, serving Shanghai and facing the Yangtze River Delta, build a enterprise-blending and market-oriented industry-university-research technological innovation system, and enter the purchasing service system in the fields like modern service industry, information industry, cultural creativity, health sciences, and many other fields.


Positioning 3: As a new undergraduate school, with majors as the driver and disciplines as support, we organize teaching and research teams to build a comprehensive practice platform. We have occupational platforms for all majors and every development point has in-depth cooperation for our occupational platform.


Positioning 4: Our students are equipped with specialties, expertise, virtues, vision, and potentials. We develop their applied skills in English and information technology, train their professional techniques, and broaden their occupational understanding and comprehensive practice ability, so that students can become high-quality applied talents with good theoretical knowledge and cultural foundation, as well as Chinese virtue, international perspective and innovative potential.

How can we achieve the above goals?


Approach 1: Overall, implement the "resource conception-based university development strategy". Only by constantly getting access to external resources and external support can we maintain our competitive advantage. This is our basic strategy and the basic approach.


Approach 2: Demand connection and dislocated layout. Focus on the layout of disciplinary system and social service system. Endeavor to address the resources matching and management matching of the two systems.


Approach 3: Merging teaching with industries and cross-boundary alienation. Found secondary colleges; Train students and facilitate employment in a cooperative way; Move occupational training forward; Implement council management. Co-build experimental and practice training platform with enterprises and industries and invest in the forms of capital, technology, patents, etc., so that entrusted management and service purchase can be realized.


Approach 4: International cooperation, school-based development. International cooperation promotes the updating of educational conception, expansion of vision and realm, accumulation of the school's prestige, and the gathering of the school resources. We should start from the courses and form the integrated teaching programs, all-English curriculum and a foreign and Chinese teachers team. We should also create cross-cultural education atmosphere and realize the connection of curriculum contents, practices, selection criteria mutually recognized credits and degrees.


According to the positioning goals and realizing approaches, we will launch the following specific measures:

Measure 1: Start teaching from autonomous learning platform. Learning from Management School of University of Northern Colorado in US, we wish to build Jiashan campus into a basic college of a private university. For lifelong development of each student, we guide them in the confidence-oriented autonomous learning and equip them with good disciplinary basis as well as foreign language and computer specialties. We also facilitate the autonomous choosing of majors and guide them rationally design their career.


Measures 2: Boost specialties from the composite and cross platform. Our comprehensive cross platforms like comprehensive international business training center, comprehensive modern service outsourcing experimental center, and comprehensive international medical technology training center, all have industrial support behind. On these cross platforms, we hope that all the relevant major and interdisciplinary comprehensive experimental platforms can provide integrated services to in-school practice and outside-school incubator on innovative entrepreneurship.


Measure 3: School-enterprise cooperation starts from institutional reform. Centering industrial qualifications framework, we should form a school-enterprise cooperation pattern with "diversified subjects, flexible modes, mutual effect and social satisfaction".


Measure 4: Human resource starts from institutional reform. On the one hand, we will establish cultivating and training system, ensure development opportunities, and provide quality school conditions and housing conditions. On the other hand, we will establish cooperative employment relations, in which unit people are turned into social people, so that demand-based employment, performance-based retention, position-based distribution and contribution-based distribution can be realized.


Strategic goals must select practice approaches and operational measures and there must be governance system as safeguard. Sanda is run by colleagues and our philosophy is to build Sanda and Sanda. Sanda will do its own thing in the realistic framework, and will go out of its way in practice to explore its characteristics. Sanda will live up to the trust and by-category guidance of government. Sanda will live up to the trust of the people and we will practice our social responsibility. Our dream can be expressed in two phrases, beautiful Sanda, happy teachers and students.
